There are many widgets available to embed in your website. Here are a few that are used in our district.
Voki allows you to add a character to your web page. You can share classroom information, give instructions, or just offer a greeting. Voki offers a teacher's corner too. Check out their ideas for using Voki in your classroom! |
Shelfari is now owned by Amazon. Our middle school library web page displays a Shelfari Favorites bookshelf, and the librarian can modify the shelf whenever she wants to highlight books for students.
Animoto offers a presentation medium that combines images,video clips, music, and text. There is also an Educator option and sample videos that demonstrate how Animoto can be used in the classroom. |
Slide is a slide show with photo effects, transitions, and music options. Slide does offer advertising for other applications the company creates at the bottom of the video, but you can remove them if you know a little about html code--or you know a student who does. :) |
Embed Capzles you make or find. This site offers easy ways to add either to your Yola site. The site defines its applications as social storytelling, and there are many ways these presentation tools could be used in the classroom.
Glogster is a great site for publishing in a number of ways. Smart teachers use the EDU site, which offers a free and a premium option. Glogster is easy to use, and even elementary students can create and publish glogs with little training. A Glog is created using a very easy to understand, drag and drop interface that is relevant, enjoyable, and scalable for students of all ages and learning styles. A Glog is an interactive visual platform in which users create a “poster or web page” containing multimedia elements including: text, audio, video, images, graphics, drawings, and data. |
Prezi is a presentation tool that can be embedded into a website to be shared with an online audience or downloaded to your computer to be shared with a local audience. |
Issuu will allow you to upload documents that can be embedded into your Yola site. The embedded object can be enlarged and viewed, shared, or downloaded. This service is free, but it also offers a premium option that removes advertisements and upload size restrictions. |
Voicethread offers a free and premium service. Use the free service for displaying art projects, photos, etc. Have students add comments or give access to parents and other teachers. Voicethread also offers ideas for the classroom. Click here to see math examples and other curricular area ideas too. Premium services allow multiple uploads and secure collaborative environments. Teachers also automatically are co-editors of all of their student accounts on the Premium version. |
